We invite all Grade 2-6 musicians, jugglers, singers, gymnasts, magicians, and more to take the stage for Gillispie's 2nd Annual Talent Show! Auditions for students interested in participating will take place in the MPR on September 12 and 13 after school at 3:30 p.m. Your child only needs to attend one of the two dates. The acts will be seen in the order that they arrive. Students awaiting their turn will gather in the music room. Parents are not...

During the first week of school, students of all grades explored their new classrooms and met their teachers. Classmates reunited and made new friends, too! To build camaraderie, many classes used fun icebreakers. Ms. Haas's fourth-grade students practiced teamwork skills by working on jigsaw puzzles together and playing Double Nine Dominoes with strategy and excitement. Students in our Early Childhood classes were already seen settling in with their new teachers and friends for storytimes and fun group activities. We...

Dear Families, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Sara, and I am serving the 2023-2024 school year as Gillispie’s very first School Counselor! I am already so excited to be part of the Gillispie family. It is so apparent how close-knit and welcoming the Gillispie community is, and I feel very lucky and honored to be part of it! My passion for School Counseling began during my time as a student...

We want to thank all of our parent volunteers who gave their time to make this year so incredible for our students, faculty, and staff.  As the saying goes, "many hands make light work", and there is much done behind the scenes to enhance our school. From Room Parents to Event and Classroom Volunteers to Hot Lunch Servers to Community Service Organizers and beyond, each act of kindness enriches our Gillispie Community. YOU make it all...

Recently, I met with Gillispie parents to discuss keeping our children safe when they use technology and go online. I shared information from a recent Gillispie student tech survey that was conducted with our 3rd-5th grade students, as well as recommendations for helping children to navigate technology safely. Parents engaged in a rich discussion on the challenges of parenting in the digital age, and they also provided recommendations for how they help their own children use technology...

In Art class we love printmaking! Students get to use interesting tools and materials such as brayers, inks, linoleum, styrofoam, gouges, barens, wooden spoons, clay, leaves, rolling pins, cloth, and more. The best aspect of printmaking is that we can make multiple artworks from a single piece of art! Kindergarten used inked leaves pressed over an abstract watercolor. First-grade students, inspired by our resident tortoise, Minnie, have created collographs made with cut-out paper glued onto cardboard. Second graders used rolling...

Meals on Wheels delivers special Happy Birthday gift bags to older adults receiving their services. It is a lovely way to show them love on their birthdays! The Community Relations Committee helped Gillispie students make handcrafted cards and artwork that Meals on Wheels will deliver with the birthday packages to older adults. It will surely brighten their day! The students were enthusiastic and the artwork was heartwarming! Thanks to the parents who volunteered to help. The Community Relations Committee...

Thanks to our amazing Gillispie families and community partners, this year's “party with a purpose” was a terrific success. For those of you who could not attend, please enjoy the videos we sent! While we dined on delicious food and cut a rug on the dance floor, the centerpiece of the evening was our students and our teachers, who were highlighted multiple times throughout the night. And because of your generosity, we raised more than $473,000,...

The Gillispie community mourns, along with the rest of the world, the devastation and loss of life caused by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday. Many countries, including the United States, are sending search and rescue teams. Local groups are fundraising to continue humanitarian efforts in the Middle East. Here are some ways you can help: UNICEF’s emergency response prioritizes water, sanitation and hygiene, child protective services, nutrition, and education. To donate to...
