What a wonderful way to come together! For those who were able to attend  Brews, Bites & Vines on September 14, we enjoyed your company. We had beautiful weather and a record turnout!  Because of our incredible supporters, we were treated to so many delicious sips and snacks. We had a wonderful time seeing families on campus at the 2023 Spring Arts & Design Showcase on May 26.  We were blown away by the talented musical performances, the beautiful art galleries, and the amazing science and design projects on display. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to our extraordinary specialty teachers Mr. Lewis, Ms. Walters, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Belsha, and Mr. Lawerence for all their hard work producing this event....

Parent volunteers put on a fantastic celebration for Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! Every day had a clever theme with teachers and staff treated to gourmet coffee from around town served by smiling parent baristas, muffins, bagels, donuts, craft charcuterie, fortune cookies, pies, macarons, and a feast from Phil's BBQ with all the fixings. We want to thank all of the volunteers for their time, bringing in items, baking, writing personal notes to put on the appreciation wall,...

Thanks to our amazing Gillispie families and community partners, this year's “party with a purpose” was a terrific success. For those of you who could not attend, please enjoy the videos we sent! While we dined on delicious food and cut a rug on the dance floor, the centerpiece of the evening was our students and our teachers, who were highlighted multiple times throughout the night. And because of your generosity, we raised more than $473,000,...

Meals on Wheels delivers special Happy Birthday gift bags to older adults receiving their services. What a lovely way to show them love on their birthdays! It is a sure way to brighten someone’s day. The Community Relations Committee is providing Gillispie students the opportunity to make handcrafted cards and artwork that Meals on Wheels will deliver to older adults having birthdays. If you are interested in volunteering to supervise a card-making table during lunch hours on March...

What a blast we had on December 16 as Gillispie welcomed well over 200 grandparents and special friends to our campus! Students were so excited to show off their classrooms and take part in fun activities with their special guests. Hearing from Alison Fleming about Gillispie's philosophy in educating children and enjoying our Grade 4 musicians were also on the schedule. Thank you to our special guests, our incredible parent volunteers, our creative and dedicated teachers, and...

Happy third week of school! It was lovely seeing so many of you at Back to School Night where the energy was terrific. Clearly, we enjoy being together! As you heard our Board Chair, Jonathan Lischke, share in his remarks, we are launching our ONEGillispie Annual Giving campaign. Over the next several days you will receive a letter and a pledge form from Erin and Mitch Otolski, Parent Chairs of this effort, enabling you to make...

The Grade 3 Blood Drive yesterday was a huge success! Overall, we collected 39 units of blood for the San Diego Blood Bank on behalf of Gillispie School, and 25 people donated for the very first time at our drive! Participants were members from the Gillispie community and our local neighborhood. According to the blood bank, the amount collected is way above average for a mobile drive! Moreover, this collection will save the lives of 117 people in just one day. We are...

This purposeful space is being built and organized to allow our Kindergarteners to create, collaborate, and experiment with various materials. Kindergarteners can take items apart, put things together, and dream up imaginative creations. Teachers have labeled shelving spots assigned to each student so they can safely store and then revisit their designs over time. The goal is to support curiosity, innovation, free-thinking, and creativity in our future scientists, teachers, engineers, architects, surgeons, artists, and inventors! We would like to...

Gillispie's annual Grade 3 Blood Drive is back Tuesday, February 8, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event this year will be held in a mobile blood bank stationed in the Sandbox parking lot. Did you know that blood supplies at San Diego County’s busiest trauma centers are more critically low than they have been in over 30 years? Here is a recent article in the San Diego Union Tribune with more information on the current blood supply crisis.  Now...
