There is nothing quite like the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. At Gillispie, we love to involve grandparents! We have designated the week of November 16 as “Grandparents Week” and will have opportunities for grandparents and special friends (no matter where they live) to engage virtually with their grandchildren’s classrooms and with the School. Because most, if not all, of our events this year will be virtual or have a virtual component, we hope to involve our grandparents and...

Our Gillispie at H.O.M.E. (Hands On Mindful Exploration) program offers Early Childhood families who elected not to have their child/children on campus this year a lively distance cohort experience. We've already begun the second of nine monthly sessions, and the positive feedback has been tremendous! While this interactive community has been offered in a daily format to children ages 2 through Prekindergarten, we are opening up another opportunity for students ages 20-36 months with a once-a-week model. Parent Toddler at H.O.M.E will offer 8-week sessions that will include...

Just because we can’t all be together for the time being does not mean that we can’t have a great time together! Be on the look-out for information on the following FUN activities that will take place in the coming several weeks: Padres Spirit Day will take place on Friday, October 2. Students are welcome to wear Padres colors or gear and cheer on our home team! It is also a free dress day! The Halloween Parade is on October 30 this year, and parents can...

Hello Gillipsie Families, It has been a terrific start to the year! With each passing day since our opening, I hear and watch the children becoming more and more comfortable in their surroundings. There is nothing in this world like the laughter (and even arguing) of children as they make their way through the day. Early childhood students came to campus last week and were joined by kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders this week. Next week...

Dear Elementary Families, Below please see a reminder of the return to campus schedule. If you intend to keep your child at home beyond the start of on-campus learning, you must let us know by filling out this form by Thursday, August 27. Please do this even if you have already communicated your intentions, as we need to have a confirmed list of Learning-at-Home By Choice participants. If you plan to send your child to school on the schedule below,...

Hello Everyone, As promised last Friday, below are Gillispie’s plans to open school on September 1. Given Governor Newsom’s recent announcement, will our elementary students meet on campus or online as we open the 2020-2021 school year? Time will tell, and rest assured that we are assiduously planning for both possibilities. In the July 17 Framework for K-12 Schools in California, the California Department of Public Health referred to a waiver that might be granted by the...

For parents electing not to enroll their preschoolers in an on-campus program this year, Gillispie School in La Jolla has launched a new virtual learning program called Gillispie at H.O.M.E. (Hands-On Mindful Exploration.) Gillispie at H.O.M.E. will provide an interactive community and unique home learning adventure for children ages 2 through Prekindergarten. The program will offer nine 4-week sessions that can be taken one month at a time or through a subscription plan beginning August 24 and is...

Dear Parents,  Our hearts are heavy with the historic and ongoing injustices and tragedies of racial disparities that have been highlighted over the last several days. As educators, we are compelled to provide you with resources as you lead your young children through the complex issue of race. Gillispie’s Mission Statement includes the language, “We value a nurturing environment that fosters kindness, respect, and individual commitment to the larger world,” and our Philosophy Statement includes, “We focus on...
