17th annual International Day

On Friday, October 25, Gillispie held its 17th annual International Day!

Students grabbed their “passports” and traveled to themed areas of campus representing Egypt, Colombia, Slovakia, Singapore, China, Sweden, Scotland, Cuba, and Fiji.

Parent volunteers and faculty members decorated classrooms, wore traditional dress, prepared ethnic foods, and shared interesting facts about different countries around the world in order to provide students with an opportunity to learn about life outside of our borders.

International Day began as a social studies project, and over the past 17 years, it has grown into one of the most anticipated days of the year that truly honors the globally-minded mission of our school.

While there are several project-based experiences throughout the year for students, International Day is a special example of the learning village Gillispie School has become.

We are so grateful that our students can play and learn about the rich diversity of our world with friends, teachers, parents, local artisans, and foreign visitors all without leaving La Jolla.

Thank you to all who helped make this year’s event a success!
