In Ms. Leard’s Builders Club, architects each got a tray of Legos and were challenged to use all the Legos to create a structure. These junior builders then presented their designs to other club members. Who knows what next week’s challenge will bring! In Ms. Boisnard’s Stupendous STEM, students read Iggy Peck, Architect, which described a broken bridge and how a little boy, Iggy Peck, repaired it. Children then constructed their own bridges and challenged themselves by...

We are all very excited about the imminent re-opening of the Gillispie Library! Our collection of picture books, chapter books, and nonfiction titles was previously located in what is now the Kindergarten Tinkerspace. Our new larger space in the Sandbox allows us to expand both our library collection and programming. Although our Library is not fully functional yet, some library classes have already begun. Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade began the year with a read-aloud...

Applying ICARE to our Digital Citizenship Practices Gillispie students in Grades 1-5 have spent the past two weeks of school revisiting the Gillispie ICARE Values as they apply to our digital citizenship practices. During our digital citizenship lessons, students review each of the ICARE letters, and the value they represent: I = Integrity                                                     ...

Gillispie aspires to nurture and encourage global citizenship. As global citizens, we are connected and share many similarities, as well as differences, and learning about the world around us makes us better informed and empathetic. Families and students have asked how, as a community, we can help the situation in Ukraine. So, this Monday, International Day, we are launching a drive to collect the following items, identified by the local House of Ukraine as desperately needed: 1. All...

Dear Gillispie Families, I hope this letter finds you well and with lovely memories of time spent with family over the holidays. Our family stayed close to home and played many board games and charades-–I had no idea that some members were as competitive as when they played (or coached) recreational sports! Safety Updates With holiday travel and event gatherings, the late December COVID surge due to the omicron variant is expected to rapidly increase over the next few...

Gillispie families love to eat pizza! Especially delicious pizza, like the take-n-bakes made by American Pizza Manufacturing. Thanks to the scores of Gillispie families and faculty/staff that participated, APM told us this was BY FAR the biggest fundraiser they have ever had, and we helped more than triple their revenues for a typical Wednesday evening. Owner/Manager, Andrew, was thrilled by the response, and old wished he could have provided shorter lines. We received terrific feedback and photos from families....
