Dear Gillispie Families, I am providing an update after the Center for Disease Control’s February 25 report to the American public on the coronavirus (COVID-19). Though the number of cases in the United States remains low and the virus is not as severe as first expected, CDC officials noted that it is likely that COVID-19 will spread across United States communities. Thus, it is important that we thoughtfully consider ways at school and home to keep ourselves...

What is the best way to organize our classroom library? How might we reduce food waste at our school? How can we combat pollution on the La Jolla coastline? In what ways could we address the homelessness issue in San Diego? Questions like these, whether small or big, drive the work of students in classrooms that take a project-based approach to learning. They also look a lot like the types of questions adult professionals face daily...

It has been over a decade since Gillispie first rolled up its sleeves and hosted the first blood drive, and the tradition continues with our annual Grade 3 Blood Drive and Bake Sale February 11, 2020. Over the past ten years, our Gillispie blood donors have saved...

Gillispie’s signature community event, Corks & Forks, is bursting with new vendors and Gillispie favorites! This annual event is the perfect occasion to invite your friends and family to campus to see what the Gillispie community is all about – so get...

Last week, Cypress Room held its annual Thanksgiving feast in the gym.   Students made hand-printed placemats and table decorations for the event.   The meal was potluck style, with each family bringing in a dish specially requested by their child to share.   During the event, families wrote down things they are thankful for on cut-out feathers that were attached to a shared turkey display.   Everyone had a wonderful time eating together, laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying each other's company...

Mark your calendars! On Thursday, January 25 at 6:30-7:30 p.m., author David Schwartz will present a family program called Numbers, Numbers, Everywhere! David will be treating families to delightful storytelling when he talks about the connection between stories and numbers. Children (and parents) will long remember the difference between a million, a billion, and a trillion when the evening is over! Earlier that day, prekindergarteners through sixth graders will be participating in four separate assemblies David will be interacting...
