This past semester, Gillispie School's ICARE Club quietly shaped something powerful on campus: small moments of connection that rippled far beyond Thursday afternoons. What may have looked like a simple gathering on the Sport Court was actually the result of thoughtful planning, creativity, and heart.
Each week, this student-led club designed interactive experiences that invited participation from students across grade levels, including our early childhood program, as well as faculty and staff. Whether it was a collaborative game, a shared art project, or a kindness challenge, the goal was the same: to create spaces where everyone felt welcomed and valued.
The impact showed in meaningful ways. Students who might not typically play together were teaming up. Laughter carried across the Sport Court. Older students stepped naturally into mentorship roles, offering encouragement and guidance. Across campus, we found pieces of these initiatives displayed, sparking excitement among younger students who already looked forward to one day joining the club.
Perhaps most importantly, the growth happened within the members themselves. They learned to lead with empathy, listened thoughtfully, solved problems collaboratively, and reflected on their influence. Through their intentional actions, the ICARE Club strengthened a culture rooted in Gillispie’s mission and grounded in the shared values of Integrity, Compassion, Attitude, Respect, and Effort.
