Our New Preschool Teacher Jennifer Takahashi

A warm welcome to our new Preschool Teacher Jennifer Takahashi!

Here is a short “get to know you” Q & A we’d like to share:

What inspired you to work with kids/become a teacher?

I appreciate how kids share their unique perspective of the world around them.  When we get time with them and listen, we can let go of our view and see things with fresh eyes. Their curiosity and excitement about life is infectious and it’s an honor to support them in their journey. Having worked with young children for over 25 years, I can truly say that no day working with kids is the same- we are always learning and always finding something new to laugh about.  I became a teacher to share this curiosity and excitement for life and to share in the wonder that each day brings.

What do you love about your job?

I enjoy sharing the joy of music, the beauty, and wonder of nature, and the connection you feel when discovering things together, I also love offering unique and beautiful materials to inspire curiosity, imagination, and appreciation.  When classrooms are put together thoughtfully, they can foster peer interconnection, the excitement that comes with a good challenge and the joy that creative exploration brings.  I love curating the space and experiences so that we can sit down together and explore, connect, laugh, question, try, make mistakes, try again and be amazed.

What is your favorite thing/hobby to do outside of school, or something interesting about you?

I love to travel and since my birthday is in July, I have been able to celebrate my birthday on three continents so far… There is so much to learn and experience from other cultures, and I also love food, so traveling is heaven for me! No matter where I am, I am also creating.  I paint, sew, knit, crochet, make jewelry and so much more- mostly I love the fun of figuring out how to make something, of learning new techniques and of sharing this with others.  To keep healthy, I walk, swim, ride bikes and enjoy various styles of yoga. I also am a certified yoga teacher, for children and adults, and include mindfulness practices in my teaching because I feel they are such important skills to incorporate in our lives.
