HoS Update: 5/22/20
Happy Memorial Day Weekend,
Dr. Adria O’Donnell spoke on Wednesday evening and did a wonderful job of explaining ways we can maintain positive relationships with our children and partners, as well as emphasizing the importance of being good to ourselves. Analogies such as the “boomerang,” “blender,” and “hot plate” were helpful. At yesterday’s parent follow-up webinar, her “lint roller” reference resonated with many of us. Sometimes, we look for evidence that reinforces our negative feelings and let it stick to us rather than peeling it off and starting a day fresh. Treat yourself to her virtual workshop–it provides us with some necessary wisdom and humor. Click here to view the webinar.
Next Friday’s electronic letter will outline preliminary plans for reopening school in September. Above all else, our priorities must be around safeguarding the children’s, staff’s, and faculty’s wellbeing. The protocols that we put into place need to reflect Gillispie’s mission and teaching philosophy with a constructivist approach as well as possible. We are closely examining research and modeling around preventive hygiene, physical distancing measures, campus-wide cleaning practices, and classroom ventilation. We invite you to join Dr. Smith, Mr. Bluestein, and me for a live webinar discussing these topics from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. All of us will have a part in protecting the health of our school, whether we are employees or families.
As we close the year, we have planned a fun way to bid adieu. If you cannot make these times, Friday will be another day for you to call ahead to arrange a time to pick up and drop off items.

The online brochure for Summer Session 2020 will be posted on Tuesday, May 26, with registration beginning the next day. As mentioned last week, because of fluctuating circumstances due to COVID-19, we have adjusted our Summer Explorers Program to be held virtually. At this time, we feel this is the best way to ensure the health and safety of our community while allowing us to prepare the campus and classrooms for the unique school year that lies ahead. The deadline for summer session refunds has been moved to June 5. You will have the opportunity to change your child’s camp schedule to the new offerings of your choice beginning May 26. You may also receive a full refund. Of course, if you have any questions at any time, please contact Erica Hurley at [email protected].
May we remember those who came before us this Memorial Day.
