Grade 2 Biographical Presentations

Grade 2 students impressed their families and teachers with amazing presentations last week.

Each student chose a person of historical significance who they viewed as an inspirational hero, researched the individual, and wrote a two-page biographical report explaining a bit about their lives, accomplishments, and interesting or surprising facts.

Working with their teachers and technology instructor Ms. Moore, students used the interactive iPad drawing tool Osmo Masterpiece to illustrate portraits of their subject. Additionally, they created videos with the iPad app Chatterpix that allowed them to dub their own voices through their heros’ moving mouths. The project required practicing two-handed typing using Google Docs and drafting multimedia slideshows using Google Slides.

Wowed by the composure of the Grade 2 students, one parent wrote:

“I was blown away by the level of detail at which they researched and wrote, and how reading, writing, exploration, reflection, and even technology were incorporated into this project. More than anything, I was impressed by their confidence in their work! It was great to see how proud they were to share with us.”

At Gillispie School, we believe that learning is a journey in which children are active participants. We balance a child-centered approach that does not rush childhood with well-researched academic programs that demand higher level thinking. We focus on social-emotional learning that develops strength of character, kindness towards others, and openness to diverse ideas and cultures.
