Grade 1 Students Celebrate Diwali

With “the season” upon us, students in Grade 1 have been learning about different holidays from around the world.

Recently, they had a lesson on Diwali, one of India’s most celebrated holidays.

Diwali (also known as the Festival of Lights) lasts five days and usually falls at the end of October or beginning of November.

Families celebrate the spiritual triumph of light over darkness or good over evil by hanging lights and lamps outside homes. Sweet treats such as dried fruits and nuts are given as presents, and a sweetmeat called Mithai is often enjoyed as well.

While learning about the holiday, students in Grade 1 drew large-scale mandalas and rangolis on the sport court and created their own Diwali lanterns.

We are excited to see what holiday they explore next!
