Big Project Exhibition Recap
Parents, family, and friends joined us for the 2017-2018 Gillispie Big Project Exhibition on Friday, April 20!
With event maps in hand, visitors toured the various exhibits around campus which showcased the work that students have done all year on their specific grade-level topics.
Cycling through a design-thinking process, students first researched their topics, developed awareness of the issue as it exists around the world and here in our community, and developed questions, which led to specific areas of focus.
Throughout the year, teachers and students have heard from local experts to empathize with those affected by the issues, brainstormed possible solutions or improvements, presented initial ideas to panels of adults, and re-imagined their ideas, taking new information into consideration.
The whole process culminated in the school-wide event, and it was so exciting to watch the students showcase all the findings and work that has been done throughout the year!
About Gillispie School: We are an independent toddler through Grade 6 school in La Jolla, CA. We believe that learning is a journey in which children are active participants. Our students partner with teachers to further their academic, creative, and social growth, and we balance a child-centered approach that does not rush childhood with well-researched academic programs that demand higher-level thinking.
