A Very Busy (and Fun-Filled) Monday!
Gillispie elementary students kicked off the first full week of school with a Monday to remember.
The day began with a new tradition: Morning Announcements. K-6 students gathered on the Sport Court at the morning bell to hear announcements, celebrate birthdays, and learn about upcoming events. These new Monday morning meetings will occur every week that school is in session and are open to all parents, who may watch (quietly!) from the entrance to the play yard. In the coming weeks, all students will have the opportunity to address the elementary community on topics such as campus events, Gillispie Values, and projects.
Monday ended with a surprise assembly led by Danny Batimana, professional dance instructor and founder of Happiness is Now.
Students were treated to 30 minutes of fun, high-energy dance instruction as Mr. Batimana spread his message that dancing creates positive energy, which then promotes happiness and success.
It was a joy to watch kids and adults alike jump around the gym with huge smiles on their faces. Everyone worked up a good sweat and learned some new moves, creating a positive energy that will long be remembered.
As one Kindergartner commented, “the dance assembly was the best assembly ever!”
