2019 Sixth Grade Graduates

During a heartfelt ceremony, our 2019 sixth grade graduates each gave their own beautiful speeches reflecting on their time at Gillispie.

Common themes heard were:

Enthusiasm

“Hope is the way to gain confidence. Being hopeful will allow you to have a lot of enthusiasm. I believe that being hopeful will allow you to overcome your fears.”

“I believe enthusiasm is a key to life. Half of enthusiasm is having a positive attitude, and the other half is lifting up anyone who is feeling a little gloomy or sad.”

Creativity

“I believe creativity is key. Everyone needs to work hard and try their best but being creative is important. People should innovate and create.”

“I believe we are all put on this earth in different and unequal situations, and we only make the most out of life by taking the opportunities that are placed in front of us.”

“Lately, I have grown a love for words and writing due to the creative ways that Gillispie challenged me. Thank you.”

“Creativity gives you the ability to think outside the box. Creativity doesn’t have to be perfect, but it is new and your own.”

“I think creativity is one of the most important and useful skills that Gillispie School has taught me. When you are creative, you think deeper than the surface.”

Life Lessons

“I have learned procrastinating is not a good decision. It is a bad idea to procrastinate. It is better to just do your work the moment you have a chance.”

“Gillispie has really let me play around with what I want to try, and they have helped me find what I want to pursue.”

“Dear Mom and Dad, I have always counted on you for being the most awesome people in the world. I have always looked up to you for being a good resource for my questions.”

“Now that I’m leaving, I do thank Gillispie for shaping me so I can leave this little school by the jewel confidently and ready for the real world. Thanks, Gillispie, you’ve given me the best childhood a boy could ask for.”

Community

“The teachers here are the most incredible people in the world.”

“Gillispie isn’t just a school, it’s a home. Gillispie is like a second home to me and everyone in it is like family. Here, at this home, I got to meet great friends and incredible teachers.”

“I thought I was going to be the odd one out because I came back to Gillispie in October, but it was like I was here all along. I knew everyone and felt welcomed by all the teachers and my classmates. This is how I really learned the meaning of compassion.”

“I believe I never would have gotten through the hard times in life or activities that sounded challenging to me without my classmates and teachers giving me great advice.”

And Bittersweet Goodbyes

“A good school produces powerful students and makes them wish they didn’t have to leave. This is the perfect description of Gillispie. The bad part is that my days at Gillispie are over.”
